Some Internet Marketing Terminology explained...........What is an auto responder ?

What is an auto responder?

An auto responder is a software program that automatically sends out emails on a pre-scheduled basis to all opted-in people on your list.
Once you have built a list, the idea is that you send them some freebies or send them a newsletter or an affiliate link etc… You can’t possibly do all this manually each time you receive a new opt-in. An autoresponder does this automatically for you. Let’s say you want to create a 5 part email course. You set the intervals for the emails, say once a day. All you need to do is type in the emails once in your auto responder software and your list will get an email once a day. Anyone joining your list will automatically be sent those emails for the next 5 days.
So the owner of the list uses autoresponder software to set up a sequence of emails that go out at regular intervals.

Some Internet Marketing Terminology explained.........What is email marketing?

What is email marketing?

Email marketing is one of the best ways - if done correctly - to keep existing visitors coming back and to market your offers directly to their inboxes. All you need to do is send the people who opt-in an email on a regular basis with links that will earn you money. The people that will receive your emails have given their permission, so it is permission-based email marketing and for this reason is not categorized as spam. Predictions are that in 2012 some 400 billion emails will enter inboxes every day. As much as 75% to 80% are spam or unwanted emails.

Some Internet Marketing Terminology explained.........What is an opt-in box?

What is an opt-in box?

An opt-in box is another way of saying "somewhere for your visitors to enter their email address to receive updates and emails from you". Once a visitor has given you their email address, they have “opted-in”. An opt-in box normally resembles the layout of the examples below:

Some Internet Marketing Terminology explained.............What are article directories?

What are article directories?

Article directories are websites where anyone can submit an article for inclusion in the directory. The article directories are free for anyone to visit or take content from. Some article directories require you to create an account while others don’t. Once you have submitted your article you need to wait for it to be approved by the article directory.

Some Internet Marketing Terminology explained......What is article marketing or bum marketing?

What is article marketing or bum marketing?

Most people think that article marketing is the same as bum marketing. The main difference is that with bum marketing you find an untapped niche and an affiliate product in that niche. You write an article with keywords, which makes it easier for your article to rank in the search engines. In article marketing you would focus on the keyword “dog” but in bum marketing you would focus on the keyword “how to stop your dog barking”. In article marketing you would send your visitor to your website with a lot of information about dogs. In bum marketing you would send your visitor straight to your affiliate landing page selling an eBook about how to stop your dog from barking.

Some Internet Marketing Terminology explained...........What are cookies?

What are cookies?

Affiliate Marketing gets even more interesting because some merchants work with Cookies: 2-days Cookies, 7-days Cookies, 14-days Cookies, sometimes even lifetime Cookies. A Cookie is a text file that contains a form of ID (Identification) and is placed on a computer by a website. I will explain it from an affiliate marketing view. You, as the affiliate, are driving traffic to the merchant’s website with your affiliate link. A visitor clicks on your link and so visits the merchant’s website. He might not buy anything and leave the site but the merchant has left a cookie on the visitor’s computer. If that visitor returns to the site within 7 days of his first visit, you will still receive commission because the merchant has left a 7-day cookie. If the same visitor returns to the site on the eighth day after his very first visit, you will not receive commission.

Some Internet Marketing Terminology explained..............What is affiliate marketing?

What is affiliate marketing?

the days when the guy from the insurance company would come and sit in your kitchen and try to sell you insurance? The “older” generation reading this will remember. When he sold you some, his boss – the insurance company – would pay the sales guy say, 10% commission. That is affiliate marketing the old fashioned way. I guess you could also call it commission marketing because that’s what it is: somebody gets paid commission for selling somebody else’s product. The insurance company is the affiliate merchant, or vendor, and the sales guy is the affiliate as he gets commission from a sale.
Now imagine this scenario on the internet: the insurance company has a website that sells insurance. The sales guy has a website that tells you the pros and cons of insurance and here
and there on his website he puts a link that, when you click on it, you have the chance to buy something. If you buy via that link, the insurance company will pay the sales guy commission.

Some Internet Marketing Terminology explained...........What is an eBook?

What is an eBook?

‘eBook’ stands for electronic book (also known as digital book). It is called a digital product because it can be downloaded immediately after purchase and there are no shipping costs. It is basically a normal book but published in electronic format. Rather than reading words from a hard copy book, you read them from your computer, laptop or from devices called eBook readers such as Amazon’s Kindle. Apple calls its eBooks, iBooks.

Some Internet Marketing Terminology Explained.......... What is a niche?

What is a niche?

I will talk a lot about niches in this blog but what is a niche? A niche is a small part of a topic or subject. A car market is a niche: that is a niche where all people are interested in cars. Mercedes is a sub niche from the main niche (a niche within a niche), as it is a manufacturer of cars. You can keep digging deeper into a niche: a yellow Mercedes would be another sub niche of the Mercedes niche. A yellow Mercedes with yellow leather chairs (digging deeper again) would be a micro niche in that sub niche. In this book I will sometimes talk about sub niches and micro niches that have the potential to make money. I will simply call it “niche” throughout this blog.

What skills does an internet marketer need ?

I have read, I have analysed, I have tried, I have learned and what I’ve learned, I’ve put into action. I have made lots of (expensive) mistakes.

You can forget about working only one hour a day to earn millions. That is living in a dream world. If you are prepared to spend a lot of time on the computer and if you are prepared to work hard and learn from your mistakes, you have a good chance of making it. However, you will have to learn a lot of skills in a short time in a very competitive business.

In order to succeed on the internet you need to have some knowledge in a large variety of fields. There is no need to be an expert from the start in all the different fields as you will learn as you go along. Any business owner will tell you that it is hard work running a company. The same applies for an IM business. If you are planning to do all the work yourself, without outsourcing any of it, you will need some skills from all the professions listed below. To succeed, you will need a mixture of these 25 skills :

How can internet marketing be compared to running a “normal” business ?

Don’t try to fit in if you are born to stand out. Don’t join the rat race.....

All you need is a computer and an internet connection to make money online, right? Well, I am afraid it’s not that simple. In my opinion anybody with a tiny little bit of business acumen and common sense can make money on the internet. A person with a lot of business attitude and business knowledge has a slightly better chance of making it. The buying attitudes, reasons and motives of customers buying on the web are very similar to the ones buying on the high street. A lot of business principles can be applied to marketing online and off-line so people who are aware of these business principles are just one step ahead of others. Having said that, you certainly do not need business knowledge to make it. It is just an advantage and not a necessity.
